At United Rowing Foundation, we believe that athletic talent and potential should never be limited by financial barriers. Our mission is to identify, support, and develop young athletes from low-income and underserved communities by providing equitable access to the sport of rowing.
Rowing is a powerful Olympic sport that builds discipline, confidence, leadership, and lifelong skills—but the high cost of equipment, coaching, training programs, and competition often prevents talented youth from ever getting started. United Rowing Foundation exists to remove those barriers by offering rowing scholarships, equipment assistance, elite coaching access, and competitive development opportunities to athletes who demonstrate commitment and potential.
Through our nonprofit youth rowing programs, we create clear and sustainable pathways for young athletes to enter the sport, develop at a competitive level, and pursue long-term success—both on the water and in life. By expanding access to rowing, we empower youth to reach their full potential while helping build a more inclusive, diverse, and accessible future for the rowing community.
Enrique M. Gonzalez
Founder & Executive Director – United Rowing Foundation
Enrique Gonzalez is a lifelong rower, elite competitor, coach, and U.S. Army veteran whose mission is to make rowing accessible to talented youth regardless of financial background. Enrique began rowing at the age of 12 and, shortly thereafter, earned a place on the Peruvian national team, representing his country for four consecutive years in international competition and achieving top results. With more than three decades of experience in the sport, he remains actively involved in competitive rowing while mentoring and developing the next generation of athletes. Throughout his career, Enrique has dedicated himself to athlete development, leadership, and community building. He has served in leadership roles within rowing organizations, coached athletes at multiple levels, and helped create high-performance training environments focused on discipline, character, and long-term development. His coaching philosophy blends world-class technical standards with personal mentorship, emphasizing resilience, accountability, and opportunity. As a U.S. Army veteran and entrepreneur, Enrique brings structure, integrity, and service-driven leadership into every initiative he leads. Through the United Rowing Foundation, he works to remove financial barriers that prevent gifted young athletes from accessing the sport by providing support for equipment, coaching, training, and competitive pathways.

Andrea Alegria
Secretary & Media / Community Relations
Andrea Alegria has been a resident of Sarasota for the past 18 years and brings extensive experience in account management, where she developed strong skills in client relations, communication, and organizational coordination. Her professional background has focused on building lasting relationships, ensuring clear communication, and supporting collaborative efforts within teams and communities. In addition to her professional work, Andrea has been actively involved in community and church initiatives, where she has contributed to outreach, relationship building, and engagement efforts. Her commitment to service and community connection reflects her dedication to strengthening local networks and supporting meaningful causes. As Secretary and Media & Community Relations representative, Andrea helps facilitate communication, maintain organizational coordination, and support outreach efforts that connect the organization with athletes, families, and the broader community. Andrea is bilingual and values the ability to communicate and connect with diverse communities throughout the Sarasota area.
